iPhone increasing its gaming market share

Well its a news that is not at all surprising if you are someone who understands iPhone’s potential. If you though that playing games on iPhones isnt that cool as its not a gamers device then you are far from nailing it. Surprisingly the Apple iPhone is turning to be one of the hottest gaming device for the last year. They have managed to notch up an increase of almost 300% compared to the last year as reports from Flurry Analytics suggest.

By registering a market share of 19% this year compared to the 5% they did last year; Apple is slowly but surely on their way to revolutionize another industry, viz the gaming industry and with the iPad all geared up and ready to hit the market wonder how badly major players of this industry i.e. Nintendo and Sony are going to get hit. Nintendo and Sony have already lost 5% and 9% of their market share already to the iPhone and only time will tell how worse it can get for them if they do not act soon.

This is what Flurry analyst Peter Farago states:

“Apple has already established broad third-party game publisher support. With the iPad featuring a larger screen and more processing power, games on the tablet take a step closer to PC and console gaming. Unless the other major video game platform providers (i.e., Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft) respond accordingly, Apple could continue to roll up video game market share. With these figures, our main finding is that iPhone (and iPod touch) is a gaming platform to be reckoned with. Controlling 5 percent revenue of a $10 billion industry in just a year and a half is significant.”
